REQUIREMENTS : Candidates for this position should have basic knowledge of the legislative framework and processes related to gardening and pest control. Ability to work under pressure, independently and as part of a team are essential, as is the ability to communicate well with people at different levels. Organizational and planning skills are also necessary.

The ideal candidate should be able to act tactfully and with discretion, be self-motivated, and have the ability to handle tasks of a multidisciplinary nature. They should also be prepared to work after hours, on weekends, and during public holidays. Knowledge of the Batho Pele Principles would be beneficial, as would experience in gardening and pest control

DUTIES : The daily picking up of litter and maintaining of gardens is important to keeping our environment clean and beautiful. This includes watering the garden, pruning and trimming flowers and trees, mowing the grass, cultivating the soil for trees and flowers, removing weeds, applying insecticides to weeds, and removing dry leaves from storm water drains and gutters. Creating garden landscaping can further help beautify our surroundings.

  • Collect and dispose of gardening waste daily, using Pikitup bins.
  • Keep garden materials and equipment clean and in good condition.
  • Report any broken equipment to the Team Leader.
  • After using chemicals, powders or gases, spray or dust them into rooms, onto clothing or furnishings, over marshlands or ditches, and into catch-basins.

-Inspect premises for evidence of pests and damage to property
-Identify potential sources of infestation and extent of damage
-Set traps and place bait in areas where pests are likely to be found
-Remove dead pests and clean up work site after job is completed
-Follow fumigation and rotation roster as directed
-Attend meetings and training as required
